SOSSUSVLEI BALLET - ARABESQUE

The classic ballet arabesque pose is mirrored by a dancer and the tree in its real landscape. This relationship is enhanced by other elements, some are recognisable such as the ballerinas, newspaper, clock and sand dunes all bound together by the addition of acrylic paintbrush strokes.

 ABOUT THE ARTIST

Namibian landscape images of the iconic Sossuvlei, "dead-end marsh", were combined with ballet. Sossusvlei in Namibia is famous for its giant red dunes and petrified trees in the salt and clay pans. The trees appear to have balletic forms and make the perfect setting for the dancers I photographed during their live performances. I juxtaposed the emotions of the live dancers with the nine hundred-year-old trees to accentuate classical ballet poses.
